Description

VINTAGE - 2011

APPELLATION - RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY, SONOMA COUNTY, NORTH COAST, CALIFORNIA.

WINEMAKERS NOTES
Our 2011 Twomey Russian River Valley Pinot Noir has a red rose petal to ruby color. It has a nose of potpourri, strawberry jam, conifer bark, wild chanterelles and black truffle with hints of cinnamon, ginger and chocolate. On the palate, the wine is fruit-sweet and very full-bodied with flavors of ripe red berries and malt. It finishes with bright acidity and medium grained tannins. Given proper cellaring, it will give drinking pleasure through 2020.

VINEYARD NOTES
The 2011 growing season was characterized by the coolest and wettest weather in recent memory. The substantial winter rains and weather continued throughout the entire growing season. Budbreak was in mid-March, slightly later than normal and the unsettled, cold conditions and intermittent rain during bloom resulted in low cluster counts and lower crops than normal. A storm in early June was particularly damaging to the vineyards that were still in bloom. The damp spring brought botrytis and mildew pressures, and attentive viticulture was more important than ever. Summer temperatures continued quite cool and delayed
growth by up to two weeks. Finally, in September, a week of mid-90s temperatures brought a much needed push to ripeness and gave us perfect skin maturity. Picking began in mid-September and concluded in the first week of October just before the first big rain of the season. The result of this tumultuous growing season was complexity and richness; fully ripe grapes at lower sugar levels with fresh acidity and pure fruit and mineral characters — a great expression of Pinot Noir from a once in a lifetime vintage in California.
