VINTAGE - 2009
19 BLOCK CUVÉE
A core of 19 blocks from our highest altitude estate vineyard comprises this proprietary Cabernet blend. The Veeder Summit Vineyard, with altitudes ranging from 1,300 to 2,000 feet is distinguished for its steep slopes and volcanic soils and produces intensely flavored, complex wines. Each varietal in the blend has been matched to a specific vineyard block resulting in a
wine that exemplifies the best expression of the vineyard each vintage.
The 2009 19 Block has aromas of cedar and black licorice. A rich entry of black cherry and ripe plum is supported in the mid-palate by oak nuances of vanilla, caramel and graham cracker. A long, silky finish of polished tannins suggest immediate approachability but the wine will continue to improve over the next 3-4 years.
The 2009 growing season started out easy with little frost. Spring and summer weather was moderate, without heat spikes, allowing the physiological and sugar ripening of the berries to stay in balance. The crop size in most areas was average to above average.
