California

California's winemaking history dates back to the late 1700's, when Spanish missionaries introduced wine to the state from Mexico.

The state's climate is mostly Mediterranean, with cool wet winters and warm, dry summers. The coastal areas are cooler than the inland regions. The northern half of the state generally receives more rain than the southern half.
